According to the Uiv-Vinitaly Observatory, Italian wine exports show a +17% in volume and +13% in value in the first two months of 2024, well beyond the performance of France (+5% volume, -6% value). Therefore, good news for Italian wine which had recorded a slight decrease in exports in 2023. A considerable increase – both compared to 2023 and in the previous five years – is supported by substantial changes in the United Kingdom (+22%), China (+33%), Japan (+40%), Russia (+116%, thanks to the super-duty hypothesis); excellent signals from the North American market. Altought, SipSource recorded a 7.5% contraction of the italian wine consumption in the first two months in the United States.
«It is too early to make any type of reflection – Paolo Castelletti states, the general secretary of UIV – 2 months are not enough to outline the future strategies of the sector. But the export signal is certainly positive, as is the tear on competitors. We hope this can be consolidated in the medium term». Maurizio Danese, the AD of Veronafiere comments: «The rebound of the exports in Asia is encouraging and is a good viatico for our next appointments».
