
The year-end report on the export of Italian wines shows that consumption and habits of consumers have been more oriented towards sparkling wines rather than the still ones.
Sparkling wines in 2024 reached 555.5 million liters against 495.7 million liters in 2023 (+12%) corresponding in a value of 2.3 billion euros (+5%). Sparkling wines weigh for 28.4% in value and 26.4% in volume of exports.
The value and volume of still Dop wines have increased too, exceeding 6 million hectolitres in 2024 (+7.6% over 2023) for a value of 3.17 billion euros (+5.6% over 2023). A more moderate increase for still wines Igp that grow beyond the threshold of 4.5 million hectolitres (+3.4% on 2023) for a value of 1.48 billion euros (+1.1% on 2023). Slight decrease in the total exports of Dop wines compared to last year: 52.5% in volume and 57.6% in value while in 2023 the percentages were 54.2% in volume and 58% in value of exports.
In 2024, Italy has exported almost 22 million hectolitres of wine and exceeded the wall of 8 billion euros in value, confirming itself as World leader in terms of export volumes and second, behind France, in terms of values.
The US remains the first destination of the italian export; in 2024, 24% of total turnover related to exports was earned overseas. In Germany, export values have increased (almost 4% over 2023) but they are decreasing in volume. Slight increase in both volume (+2% over 2023) and value (+1% over 2023) in the UK market.
