
The most important sales channel in the wine sector is confirmed the GDO, with figures reaching 753 million liters sold for a total value of 3.1 billion euros in 2024.
According to the research by Circana, still wines recorded a slight decrease in sales volumes (-1.3% on 2023) but gain points in value (+2.2% on 2023).
Among the best-selling wines in the GDO there is Prosecco which records a sales volume of 49.5 million liters (+4.7% on 2023) and a value of 363.4 million euros (+2.8%). Second and third place for Chianti (16.3 million liters sold for 95.8 million euros) and Lambrusco (15.1 million liters sold for 57.2 million euros).
With a growing trend, compared to 2023, we find: the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo growing by 1.7% in volume sold (14.1 million liters) and in value of 0.8% (51.6 million euros), the Vermentino from Sardinia, Tuscany and Liguria that grows by 11.7% in volume (11.6 million liters) and 13.5% in value (84.1 million euros). With smaller numbers but still with a growing trend we find the Barbera (both Piedmontese and Lombard) with 8.8 million liters sold (+1.4% on 2023) for 44.7 million euros (+3.4% on 2023), the Ribolla friulana with 8.6 million liters sold (+11.3% on 2023) for 48 million euros (+8.7% over 2023).
Double-digit growth in both volume and value for the Primitivo di Puglia: 7.3 million liters sold (+11.8% on 2023) for a value of 45.7 million euros (+12.6% on 2023).
